                        FOR YOU (Selena Gomez album)

For You is the first greatest hits album by American recording artist Selena Gomez; it was released on November 24, 2014, and is her final project with Hollywood Records after signing a recording contract with Interscope Records. The album has been referenced as a "collection" rather than a greatest hits album by Gomez. The album consists of Gomez's previous singles, two new songs, and multiple remixes of previously released material. For You features music from both Gomez's solo career and her releases with Selena Gomez & the Scene. Gomez worked with Rock Mafia for the new material, having worked with them on all of her previous albums.

The album was preceded by the release of the new single "The Heart Wants What It Wants", on November 6, 2014. The single was praised by music critics and became a commercial success in multiple countries. It went on to become her second top ten hit on Billboard Hot 100, and entered the top-ten in countries such as Canada and Denmark. The song was performed at the 2014 American Music Awards. Gomez also promoted the album through a promotional radio tour, where she was interviewed about the album and its single.

Gomez first began recording music in 2007, making appearances on numerous soundtracks and compilations. She signed a recording contract with Hollywood Records in 2008, and subsequently formed her band Selena Gomez & the Scene. The group released three studio albums together, all of which were commercial successes and spawned multiple hit singles. The group initially performed "rock" and "punk" influences tracks, though their later releases began to feature more pop and dance themes.Gomez announced the group would take a hiatus in 2012, as she would be focusing on her acting career.Despite this, Gomez later began working on both a Spanish album and her solo debut album; the Spanish album went unreleased.Gomez released her debut album, Stars Dance, in 2013 to critical and commercial success.Despite the album's first two singles being successful, the album did not receive a third single and all promotion subsequently ended, leading to speculation that Gomez would be parting ways with her label.Gomez later entered a treatment facility in 2014, reportedly due to her relationship with Justin Bieber.Following this, Gomez hired new management and subsequently moved labels within UMG from Hollywood Records to Interscope Records.

Rumors of Gomez releasing a greatest hits album began circulating in July 2014. It was later reported that the album was being released to free Gomez of her contract with Hollywood Records. The album was confirmed on October 17, when it appeared on Universal Music Group's official website as an upcoming release. The site revealed the album's release date, and confirmed two new songs would appear on the compilation album.Despite this, neither Gomez or Hollywood Records publicly acknowledged the record. The track listing for the album was revealed on October 31, when Amazon.com in France temporarily posted the album on their site. For You was officially confirmed by Gomez on November 6, when the album became available for pre-order through digital retailers. Gomez revealed that the album's lead single was initially meant to be released three times in the past, though was pushed back for various different reasons each time.

For You features material from both Gomez's solo career and her releases with her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene. The album features all of Gomez's previous singles, excluding "Hit the Lights". On the project, Gomez stated “I love my music so much and that’s the idea of this album…kind of collecting the past four years and my favorite songs that I’ve been able to do from when I was 15 to now being 22.” "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" was Gomez's first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and a remix of the track appeared on her band's debut studio album, Kiss & Tell (2009). "Falling Down" was Gomez's first official single with The Scene. "Round & Round", taken from A Year Without Rain (2010), is also present on the album. "Who Says" and "Love You Like a Love Song" are both taken from When the Sun Goes Down (2011), with the latter being her band's biggest hit to date."Come & Get It" and "Slow Down" were both released as single's from Gomez's first solo album, Stars Dance (2013).The songs "Naturally" and "A Year Without Rain" are remixed by Dave Audé.The two remixes were originally featured on The Club Remixes (2011), along with three other remixes."Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" is a cover of the Selena song, with Selena's vocals still present on the song; it was originally included on the remix album Enamorada de Ti (2012).

It was confirmed in October 2014 that two new songs had been recorded for the project, which at the time had not been announced by Gomez or Hollywood Records. "The Heart Wants What It Wants" was recorded by Gomez earlier in the year, with Gomez teasing fans with stills from the song's music video.Ryan Seacrest later teased fans about the song's video, stating "The video will get people talking about whether or not it's about she and Justin, that's for sure I watched it, and I looked at her, and I listened to the lyrics, and I'm like, 'Okay, this is gonna have people talking and wondering!'"The track was produced by Rock Mafia, and was co-written by Gomez along with Antonina Armato, Tim James and David Jost. The mid-tempo song lyrically speaks of Gomez's turbulent relationship with Canadian singer Justin Bieber. The song and its music video have been described as "emotional" and "vulnerable" by media outlets, and it received a positive reception from music critics.

"Do It", the album's second new track, was written by Gomez, Armato, James and Jost; it was also produced by Rock Mafia.Lyrically, the song speaks of Gomez's desire to "do it every single day" with her love interest. The song does not specify what "it" is, though features several innuendos and suggestive lyrics. The song leaked online days prior to the album's release, and garnered media attention for its themes. The upbeat song has been described as "sexy" by music critics.Gomez herself compared the song to releases from Lily Allen, and added that the song was a "cute little catchy song and I thought it'd be a great little bonus track for the album."My Dilemma 2.0" is a remix to a song taken from When the Sun Goes Down (2011), which was originally slated to be the fourth single from the album. The remix was slated to feature Flo Rida, though was unreleased for unknown reasons. Despite this, Rock Mafia posted a snippet of the new bridge on their official YouTube page. The remix featured on For You does not include Flo Rida's verse, and is credited solely to Selena Gomez & the Scene. The album features a new remix of "Forget Forever", which was originally taken from Stars Dance (2013)."Más" is the Spanish version of "More", a song taken from Kiss & Tell (2009). "Más" was reportedly recorded in 2012 for Gomez's first Spanish language album, which went unreleased.
